The Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196 Board of Education elected Shane Garner as board president at its reorganizational meeting on May 12, 2025 in the high school library. Superintendent Jason D. Henry opened nominations and Clark Lance nominated Garner; after a motion to close nominations, the board voted by voice and elected Garner unanimously.
President Garner then presided over the remaining officer elections. Garner and Dena Kirk nominated Kirk Packer for vice-president; following a motion to close nominations and a voice vote, Packer was elected unanimously. Shane Garner nominated Dena Kirk for board secretary; a motion by Kirk Packer seconded by Megan Rounds closed nominations and the board voted unanimously to elect Dena Kirk.
The votes were recorded as unanimous throughout the officer elections. The newly-elected officers will serve under the board's standard reorganizational terms; the board moved on to make routine administrative appointments and schedule decisions later in the meeting.
