Resident opposes two-way Schumann bike lane, asks for public feedback

A registered public commenter told the commission the two-way on-street bike lane proposed for Schumann Drive is "ill conceived" and urged that the treatment be delayed until the public has an opportunity to provide feedback.
"Two way bike lanes are scary. They're not comfortable infrastructure," the commenter said, adding that the corridor is a frequent route for children and families. The commenter recommended keeping both crosswalks and stop signs or, if property acquisition is not possible, building one-way cycle tracks on each side.
Committee members asked whether the committee could express its feeling to staff and whether the design should be held until more feedback is gathered. Staff said it would follow up with Ross and send clarification by email. "I will follow back with Ross as soon as I'm able once he's back in town," the staff member said. The commission indicated a consensus that further information and community input are appropriate before construction proceeds.
