The staff member described a multi-stage approach: collect information from city departments, residents and community organizations through the rest of 2026; synthesize that information in early 2027 to identify neighborhood gaps and assets; then draft new grant documents and route them through committees and council so approvals can occur around late August–September of 2027. "You all will be involved in that process," the staff member said, describing the planned outreach and synthesis steps.
Committee members asked whether the redesign would simply repackage the old process or reshape it to reflect neighborhood priorities. The chair described the intent to flip the model so the committee, informed by community input, sets priorities and issues targeted requests for proposals. Staff said the current timeline is "loose" but stressed that staff and the committee will collaborate on document development and the schedule for approvals.
Staff also noted constraints on capacity and said the interim 2027 funding decision is intended to preserve services while staff completes outreach and document development. The committee did not adopt formal milestone deadlines at the meeting beyond the broad schedule staff provided.
