Fitchburg’s personnel committee approved a request on Aug. 5 to change the classification title of an incumbent senior‑center employee from Office Assistant to Administrative Specialist to better reflect everyday responsibilities.
City staff said Susie Jones has taken on duties beyond first-point-of-contact tasks, including managing reports, reconciling program payments, scheduling requests and broader administrative support. “The goal in this job title change is just to more accurately reflect the responsibilities of the position,” the presenter said, and staff emphasized that there would be no resulting pay change.
The committee had no questions on the item and moved to reclassify the position; the motion was recorded as approved in the meeting transcript. The committee did not discuss any retroactive pay, changes to the job description beyond the title name, or a timeline for updating personnel records during the meeting.
The name-change affects the incumbent, Susie Jones, and was described by staff as an internal alignment of title to duties rather than a compensation action.
