Designers add shade structures and seating in revised Kids Crossing renderings

Designers said they restored previously omitted shade structures and increased the visual size of trees in the updated renderings to reflect community feedback. Katie, a member of the design team, said the rendering now shows a centralized shade structure with multiple benches beneath it and full-size trees that will begin to shade playground equipment.
"We are showing a centralized shade structure that will have multiple benches underneath it, and we're showing trees in this updated rendering that are full size," Katie said, explaining the rationale for the visual changes. Commissioners responded that the added shade and the nearby shelter should help reduce summer heat on play surfaces but asked staff to verify how tree locations affect views of equipment.
Designers also confirmed the seating package: Blake listed bench and picnic table counts to provide commissioners with a clearer sense of caregiver seating and rest areas.
