Library reports San Diego Pride participation and robust summer reading turnout

Library staff described recent community outreach: the library took part in San Diego Pride for the first time in several years, partnering with San Diego Public Library and San Diego County libraries to staff a table and march as a city contingent.
"We were part of the festival. We had a table there... We walked with the city staff. We walked with the police department," the staff member said, calling the event a positive opportunity to engage the community.
Staff also provided summer reading statistics: "We had over 800 participants, almost 900 participants this year," they said, adding that the library distributed about 600 meals over the summer and recorded about 1,500 attendees across all events. Staff noted some scheduling competition with the San Diego County Fair may have affected participation patterns and said programming partnerships will continue to be pursued.
Staff previewed upcoming 'One Book One San Diego' programming and said winners will be announced at the PBS Festival of Books on Aug. 22.
