Phoebus students honored for fire-prevention posters at Hampton council spotlight

Councilmember Carney read proclamations signed by Mayor Molly Joseph Ward honoring Caleb Meadows of Moton Early Childhood Center and Jaquan Ballard of Jane H Bryant Elementary School for their winning posters and the role of school participation in fire prevention week. "I, Molly Joseph Ward, on behalf of the entire city council of the city of Hampton, Virginia, do recognize and congratulate Caleb Meadows..." the proclamation read in part.
Chief Hale of the Phoebus Volunteer Fire Company said the program has brought fire education into schools for 14 years and praised the students and organizers. "If we save one life in these children's lifetime, it's been all well," he said. The council asked the community to support the volunteer program and acknowledged the Phoebus company’s role in the contest.
The recognition was part of a broader spotlight on three generations of Hampton citizens, with the council thanking volunteers and community organizations for ongoing efforts to engage young people in civic and safety programs.
