Commission reviews final America 250 mosaic design; DAR to host public model sessions

Genesis updated the commission on the America 250 mosaic obelisk, saying the City Council approved the general concept on Sept. 9 and an ad hoc committee worked with staff on final refinements. She described the image swaps — retaining the eagle and patriot images, replacing the tree image with artist Marianne Herrera’s Liberty Bell, and replacing the Constitution depiction with the Declaration of Independence to better tie the piece to the America 250 celebration.
Genesis said the DAR will provide a text panel explaining background and DAR involvement and will host two public 3-D model sessions so residents can view the design at High Ground Coffee on Nov. 22 and Dec. 6 from 9–11 a.m. “So, we changed that to the declaration of independence,” Genesis said when describing the revision prompted by public comments; commissioners expressed support for the final design and thanked ad hoc members referenced in the staff report.
