Recreation staff reports $28,000 raised for adopted battalion; Crucero Park improvements underway

Mark, the recreation staff presenter, told commissioners the Mission Viejo Community Foundation golf tournament raised $28,000 this year for the city’s adopted Marine battalion after an additional $4,000 was located following publication of the staff report. “So we made $28,000 for, from that event,” Mark said, and staff confirmed that 100% of proceeds go to supporting the adopted battalion.
Mark also provided progress details on park projects: playground equipment and rubberized surfacing are in place, shade canopies and furnishings were installed, and landscaping (including a bioswale) is underway with volunteer support from local scouts. He said the surrounding walking trail has been extended and is now lit. In response to a commissioner question, Mark later confirmed the Crucero Park basketball court will be resurfaced as part of the project and is scheduled for completion before Christmas, pending weather and contractor scheduling.
