Sentara Nightingale officials thanked the City of Hampton for its support and described operational improvements enabled by a recently delivered air ambulance.
"They have done over 425 pickups," a Nightingale representative said, noting that the new helicopter entered service on June 30, 2011 and carries upgraded weather-tracking and GPS equipment that extends range and improves safety. Ken Krakauer of Sentara's Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance Service said the craft can travel farther, arrive faster and carry more equipment to save lives.
The presenters emphasized the service's three-decade presence in the region and described several recent successful rescues in Hampton made possible by the new helicopter's instrumentation. Council members accepted a photograph of the new Nightingale as a token of appreciation. The spotlight presentation concluded with the city thanking Sentara for its partnership.
