Council told local formula will cut school local contribution by about $1.28 million

Bunting reminded the council that last year's council action to give the schools an extra $980,000 above the formula was treated as permanent and would be preserved in staff’s budget guidance. She also said that the schools face an additional potential $12.7 million in state reductions in the governor's budget; staff stressed that the Title I and special-education stimulus allocations cited earlier are targeted and cannot be used to fully replace those state cuts.
Council members asked for details about enrollment impacts and redistricting tied to new school openings; staff said further detail would be available when the superintendent’s budget is released and pledged to provide requested breakdowns.
