Hague adopts local law tightening rules for storage of refuse and recyclables

The Hague Town Board enacted an amendment to Local Law 128 (Town Code Chapter 128) on April 14 to standardize storage of refuse and recyclables. The law replaces Section 128-5 and requires property owners to maintain premises free of litter, to store building materials orderly for private use, and to keep containers secured with tight-fitting lids to prevent leakage, spillage, odors and animal intrusion. Containers must generally be placed so they are not visible from the street except during collection.
The board said it had performed SEQR review and took a roll-call vote; the measure passed 4–1. The adopted local law will take effect upon filing with the New York Secretary of State as provided in New York municipal home-rule law. Board members said the changes clarify storage expectations and help maintain public health and neighborhood appearance.
