Hague approves wastewater variances for 5 Burdick Lane contingent on Cedarwood review

Engineer Keith Manns described four variances for the key treatment components (setbacks ranging roughly 3 to 17 feet) to keep the new system close to the existing house and a single 10-foot reduction to the 100-foot stream setback (proposed 90 feet). Manns said the proposed LG system includes a geotextile layer and sand filter that provide double treatment and argued the new system would be farther from the stream than the existing failing seepage bed.
Board members asked for town engineer review and further assurances about environmental risk. After public comments and board discussion the board voted to approve the variances contingent upon Cedarwood Engineering’s recommendations, with conditions to ensure appropriate setbacks and mitigations if Cedarwood advises further changes.
