Resident urges brighter sidewalk lighting and lower speed limit on Marguerite Parkway

Tom Moore, a Mission Viejo resident who spoke during non-agenda public comment, told the Planning and Transportation Commission that sidewalks along Marguerite Parkway are poorly lit and pose a safety hazard for pedestrians. "The the street lights are in the median, don't really light the sidewalks," he said, and asked the city to consider brighter bulbs or additional fixtures so pedestrians would not have to walk in the road.
Moore also urged the commission to lower the speed limit on the stretch between Geronimo and Oso Parkway to 40 miles per hour, saying drivers often travel at 45–50 mph and signage is inconsistent. He flagged a long-out overhead light at La Paz and Marguerite and median lights south of San Sierra that have been dark for more than a year, requested that staff clarify right-of-way and remove obstructive bougainvillea at San Pedro and San Felipe so sightlines to the maze garden and a new DAR obelisk are restored, and offered to send photos to staff contact Larry Longnecker.
