At the meeting, the council and Sister Cities of Hampton recognized long-serving volunteers and officers of the local Sister Cities program. Brian Bridal introduced the program, describing Sister Cities of Hampton as a tax-exempt corporation that partners with the city to promote exchanges and mutual understanding between Hampton and its sister cities.
Diane Foster Peterson, identified in the transcript as the board president of Sister Cities of Hampton, thanked volunteers and listed current coordinating chairs and officers, including Joe Biava, Jeffrey Teneal, Dr. Martha Teneal, Britney Foster and Dr. Sean Chu. She announced a City-to-City cultural event set for Saturday, June 8, noon–3 p.m. at the Northampton Community Center and invited residents to attend for cultural foods, performances and informational booths. "We're trying to get more youth involved, in recognizing, our international pursuits and, you know, getting them involved and going to the various countries that we are a part of," she said.
The recognition highlighted the group's history dating to the 1950s and its role in hosting exchange students and delegations. The council joined in a standing ovation for the Sister Cities volunteers and encouraged attendance at the June 8 City-to-City event.
