Conrad Rueland charity events raise funds for local programs; Big Brothers Big Sisters receives $30,000

Organizers of the annual Conrad Rueland charity tournament presented a $30,000 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County during the Jan. 27 Mission Viejo City Council meeting.
Drew Fine, the city’s community services manager, described Conrad Rueland’s legacy, the tournament’s growth since its start as a memorial tennis event, and the range of beneficiaries supported by proceeds, including the Lisa Colagraci Foundation for Brain Aneurysms, Donate Life/organ and tissue donation programs and a wheelchair tennis program at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion. Fine said last year’s events raised more than $65,000 and listed upcoming events and registration details in the lobby flyer.
Sarah, a representative of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, accepted the $30,000 check and said the donation will fund Sports Buddies, a mentoring program to bring access to sports to youth who otherwise lack opportunities. "This donation obviously goes — it's not just a check. It's an investment in our youth and their future," she said.
The council posed for a photo with donors and tournament organizers at the meeting.
