Hudson Valley Justice Center leads tenant-rights seminar in Beacon

George Haddad, litigation director at the Hudson Valley Justice Center, led a ‘know your rights’ tenant seminar in Beacon and outlined the nonprofit’s eviction-defense services for residents in the Hudson Valley region.
"I'm the litigation director at the Hudson Valley Justice Center," Haddad said, explaining that the organization provides advice and possible representation to tenants in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties and that eligibility is tied to income guidelines. He also shared the program intake number: (914) 308-3490 ext. 4.
Haddad described how the intake process works, the geographic area the office covers and the types of cases staff typically handle in housing court. He emphasized the practical steps tenants should take before going to court, including documenting conditions, preserving payment records and contacting code enforcement when necessary.
The seminar closed with a Q&A in which attendees raised building-specific habitability and health concerns; Haddad offered intake referrals and flyers for one-on-one advice. The Center’s services are funded in part by a HUD award, Haddad said, and attendees were encouraged to use the intake line or the QR code on the handout for follow-up.
