Council approves immigration resources page with OCBA link after debate over sources

The Mission Viejo City Council unanimously approved an expanded "immigration resources" webpage on Feb. 24 after residents, civic groups and council members debated which links should appear and in what order.
Residents and community leaders urged the council to include vetted legal resources and links to the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) resource page to help residents, workers and Olympic visitors understand rights and available assistance. "Information could include information on safety, responsibility, and rights," Janice Uffenheimer told the council, urging adoption of the resource list.
Staff described the draft page as combining Council Member Vasquez’s proposed list, a sheriff’s office statement, and preventive guidance from the police chief. Some council members, including Council Member Kelly, urged that official federal and state pages be prioritized and that potentially untrusted sites not be promoted. Council Member Vasquez and supporters stressed that the OCBA material is nonpartisan and vetted.
After a brief discussion and a friendly amendment to reorder and ensure key government links were prominent, the motion to adopt the list and publish the resource page passed unanimously. The approved list will include the OCBA link and a set of vetted organizational resources; staff said links would be confirmed to match the council’s requested ordering before posting.
