William Graham, Williamstown Fire Chief, announced at the Selectboard meeting that firefighter Michael Greenia died on April 1, 2026 after a battle with cancer. Chief Graham said Greenia had served as a firefighter since his teens, later joined the Williamstown Fire Department after relocating back to the region, and held the department’s Safety Officer role for many years.
Chief Graham said Greenia once served as president of the Vermont State Firefighters Association and described him as "a quiet man, but a big deal in the fire community." The department will provide fire-service honors at a memorial in Jericho on Saturday, April 18, 2026; Williamstown will send three trucks including the ladder truck and Barre Town will provide coverage while crews attend the service.
