The Champaign County Environment and Land Use Committee discussed a resolution to rent either the State Farm Center or the Marketplace Mall parking lot for an Illinois EPA-sponsored one-day household hazardous waste collection event in September 2026 and voted to forward the item to the full county board without a recommendation. Staff said they had been working on the location since June but had not yet received firm confirmation from either venue; they emphasized a contract must be in place before the event can proceed.
Staff provided preliminary cost figures and explained cost-sharing with neighboring municipalities. “We will have to have a contract in place before we do this event,” Hall told the committee. Members agreed to move the matter off the consent agenda so the county board can review it as soon as a contract is available; staff said they would return the item to the committee or place it on the county board agenda when a contract is secured.
