City officials presented a recommended settlement of a tax-certiorari challenge from the owner of Taconic Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, a 160-bed nursing home at 10 Hastings Drive. City counsel and finance staff said the facility filed challenges for tax years 2024 and 2025, and staff negotiated a settlement that reduces assessment going forward and requires a $14,112 refund from the city’s portion of the tax levy for the covered years.
Staff said the settlement reflects comparisons with similar communities and recognizes the costs of litigation and appraisals. The council voted to authorize the settlement during the resolutions portion of the meeting; staff said assessments will proceed under the new agreed level going forward.
No other service or policy changes were tied to the settlement; staff emphasized the city attempts to resolve tax-cert cases early to avoid stacking backpayments and large refunds.
