Chief Mora presented the Wasco Police Department's monthly report for July, telling the council the department handled roughly 2,229 incidents that month, including 1,139 officer-initiated actions and 98 arrests. "We're answering, on average, 9 1 1 calls within 10 seconds," he said, noting the department's new dispatch logging allows better separation of emergency and nonemergency calls and that the department is exceeding the California Office of Emergency Services' 15-second benchmark.
Mora also described several burglary-in-progress responses at a PG&E yard that involved assistance from Shafter Police Department, Kern County sheriff deputies and McFarland Police Department; canine teams and drones were used in searches that led to multiple arrests. He and council members discussed a rise in traffic collisions to 14 for the month (two DUI-related) and attributed some increase to seasonal activity and greater public movement.
