Mayor Kevin Juntunen opened a special Rolla City Council meeting at Mount Pleasant School on April 8 as part of City Government Week, telling students the event was meant to demystify local government and encourage civic participation. "Ask questions, be curious, and know your voice matters now and will matter even more as you become full participants in civic life," Juntunen told the assembled students, faculty and parents.
Councilmembers introduced themselves and the meeting recognized two essay contest winners. Marshal Jeannotte (3rd grade) and Aria Parslow (7th grade) read their "If I Were Mayor" essays and were formally recognized by the council. The gathering also included city staff and representatives from local organizations who described their roles to the students.
