Mayor Kevin Juntunen opened the Rolla City Council meeting on March 16, 2026, by inviting residents and students to participate in City Government Week from April 6 through April 10 and announcing an "If I Were Mayor for a Day" essay contest for students.
Juntunen reminded potential candidates that the filing deadline for mayor, municipal judge, three council seats and three park board positions is April 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., and directed interested parties to the Auditor's Office for filing information.
In the same opening remarks, Juntunen cautioned residents against flushing products labeled "flushable wipes," saying, "Despite labels, these wipes do not break down like toilet paper. When flushed, they can clog pumps at our lift stations, slow flow in sewer lines, contribute to freezing and bursting pipes in cold weather, and cause sewer backups into homes and neighborhoods." He noted that "Rolla has an ordinance prohibiting flushing items that should not enter the sewer system and this includes all items labeled as flushable wipes. Violations can carry fines up to $500, and responsible parties may be required to pay for repairs."
