Mosquito district notifies South Weber of planned property-tax increase

The South Weber City Council heard a presentation from the mosquito abatement district on Nov. 18 that the district intends to go through truth-in-taxation and raise property taxes to cover increased equipment, chemical and staffing needs.

Dave said the district visits member cities to provide the same information so residents and officials are aware of the proposed tax change.
Councilmember Ed Smith (S2) said he had not seen pushback from other cities and noted residents want mosquito control. The presentation emphasized that population growth has increased demand for spraying and maintenance, and that the tax increase is aimed at keeping equipment and operating funds up to date.
No formal action was taken by the council on the district's notice; the mosquito abatement board will proceed through the formal truth-in-taxation process ahead of its December 11 meeting. The council did not adopt any policy change at this session and treated the item as an informational notice.
