Calvert County swears in new deputies; sheriff signals push to expand SRO coverage

Calvert County officials conducted a swearing‑in ceremony March 17 for new deputy sheriffs and introduced recruits to the board and public.
Sheriff Cox presented new deputies — including Trent Conley, Morgan Snyder and Destiny O'Donnell — and described the county's academy program, which he said has been extended to 31 weeks to include additional training such as crisis intervention. Cox thanked the families and noted the graduation ceremony is scheduled for March 27 at Calvert High School.
In remarks to the board Cox said he intends to enhance the district's school‑resource‑officer (SRO) program so every school will have coverage, citing the value of deputies who can both provide security and be present in classrooms. "We're gonna have to recruit fast for that as well," he said, noting the challenge of finding qualified candidates but emphasizing the benefits of local recruits who grew up in the county.
The board and sheriff also recognized the role of volunteers and community partners, and commissioners thanked the sheriff for the academy's work and the deputies' service.
