Council introduces truck-weight ordinance and schedules public hearing after complaints and infrastructure damage

The council introduced Ordinance G of 2026 (ordinance number 6 of 2026), which would add First through Fourth Streets to the city code's list of streets where trucks in excess of 13 tons are prohibited, citing repeated citizen complaints and at least one accident that damaged utility lines.
An agency official described enforcement and signage steps and said the change is intended to give officers a codified tool for court-supported enforcement: "We did have an accident where, wires were torn off a house on 1st Avenue, which led to, substantial damage and repair to a homeowner. So we wanna avoid that," the official said. The official also noted GPS routing issues and that the city has coordinated with a local large employer to promote appropriate routing.
Council set a public hearing on the ordinance for June 16 to take public comment before final action.
