City Planner Madison Brown told the council on March 26 that a decades‑old request to build a crossing on 750 North at 200 West as part of the Hop Trail (PIN 13932) has been re‑estimated at $250,000 because of rising material and labor costs. The request, originally about $85,000 and submitted roughly six to seven years ago by former employee Bryce Wheelwright, carries a Willard local match of just under $11,000.
Brown reported the Transportation Advisory Committee at the Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) approved the additional funding request the previous day and the project will go to the next committee in April for final approval. "The project will likely be funded from next year's budget and could take several years to complete," Brown said, and she emphasized the need to coordinate with UDOT's storm drain work on 750 North to avoid conflicts.
Councilmembers expressed support for continuing toward final funding, noting the crossing would complete a segment of the pathway system and improve safety at a currently hazardous crossing. City Engineer Zach Burke and City Manager Jeremy Kimpton were identified as staff who will continue planning work with Brown.
What’s next: The request advances to the next WFRC committee in April; local budgeting and coordination with UDOT remain outstanding steps before construction can begin.
