Councilman David Boas reported that the steel fence at the front of the Ancram Cemetery has deteriorated and that replacing the full front run would be beyond the town’s budget. He said the board is considering removing five sections that are in poor condition, preserving the gate at the front while prioritizing stone repairs and other cemetery upkeep.
“We were thinking about taking the last 5 sections down and getting rid of the fence,” Boas said, explaining that replacement costs would be high and that limited fundraising might be better directed at repairing stones and other preservation work. He asked residents who value the fence to notify the board before any final decision.
The board agreed to collect community input and to prioritize cemetery tasks if funds or volunteer support become available.
