The Common Council approved a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Amsterdam Professional Firefighters Local 2825 establishing a sick-leave donation program to assist an injured employee who is running out of sick time. The MOA was placed on the consent agenda and approved by recorded vote.
An individual who spoke during the agenda item described the situation: "I have an employee who's injured, who, ran out of or running out of sick time... This is just a small thing to keep him getting a paycheck. He's going to the doctor." Council members discussed whether the document should be titled an MOU or MOA and confirmed that the personnel accommodation was appropriate.
The council approved the memorandum by recorded vote and the item will be filed as part of the city's collective bargaining implementations for the fire department.
