During public comment on Feb. 24, several residents urged the board to scrutinize development and data center proposals and raised affordability and environmental concerns.
Kenneth Lee told the commissioners that recent high-density building along Route 4 and an upcoming development near Calvert High School were "utterly ridiculous," warned of tax pressures on working families and opposed construction of data centers that he said could increase residents' energy costs. John Lupo, speaking by phone, likewise flagged data centers and referenced studies on low-level infrasound that he said should be considered when the board evaluates proposals. "I'm just expressing my concern for the new data center and the fact that it was done with an NDA," Lupo said.
Other commenters pressed for transparency on school performance audits and the county’s use of temporary permits for noncompliant businesses. Patrick Flaherty used his comment time to announce a bid for a commission seat, pledging to serve a maximum of two terms. The board acknowledged public concerns and encouraged participation in upcoming rural legacy and budget meetings.
