Local group reports nearly 500 letters opposing starter-homes bill

Susan Dezurek, a Huntingtown resident who identified herself as a member of Keep Calvert Country, urged officials to oppose the Starter and Silver Homes Act as drafted and described local outreach. Dezurek said the group circulated an Action Network letter and coordinated with other organizations to ask the Southern Maryland delegation for bipartisan cooperation. "Our Action Network letter had sent off almost 500 signed letters from Calvert County to the committee chairs and also to the Southern Maryland delegation," Dezurek said.
Dezurek clarified that Keep Calvert Country is not opposed to starter homes or housing generally in Calvert County but is concerned about the bill's statewide, one-size-fits-all approach and the public-perception gap about downzoning that occurred in 2025. She asked the commission and county delegation to consider local impacts as the bills move through the legislative process.
