"Sports and conservation clubs may have active bird hunting, sport shooting ranges, which are defined under Wisconsin state statute..." the planning presenter said while explaining the proposed definition. Village legal counsel said state statutes provide strong protections for preexisting ranges and the changes aim to 'box in' current uses, preserve existing rifle and pistol locations and narrow where shooting activities may occur. The board approved the ordinances after discussion and questions, with members saying the package balances statutory limits and the village’s interest in identifying where activities are allowed.
