State official presents Garland with Film Friendly Texas certification

Janie Havel of the Office of the Governor's Economic Development and Tourism presented Garland's Film Friendly Texas certification and thanked city staff and Visit Garland for coordinating the effort. Havel said the program helped attract nearly $2.9 billion in local spending across the state and more than 223,000 production jobs, and she encouraged Garland to market signature locations such as Wind Surf Bay Park, Firewheel Golf Park, Duck Creek Greenbelt and Garland Downtown.
Mayor and council members accepted the recognition and thanked staff for their work. The certification signals to film producers that Garland has administrative processes and local support in place to host productions, which proponents said could generate spending on catering, lodging, transportation and local construction.
