Health department starts planning 2027 "Compass Now" community health survey

The health department told the board it is beginning the planning process for the 2027 Compass Now community survey, which the department runs in partnership with the United Way. Board members and staff completed a short live Mentimeter exercise during the meeting. Staff explained the results visually update in real time on screen and said previous Compass Now results (from 2024) ranked mental health as the top community concern, followed by social and economic factors, access to care and maternal-child health. The director emphasized designing the 2027 survey to be short, accessible, and representative across age and income groups; staff discussed outreach strategies that could include QR codes in tax information, pop-up survey stations and outreach through partner agencies.
Staff noted they lack funding for participation incentives and asked board members to consider creative outreach channels to increase representativeness.
