City staff told the Council on Aging that Fitchburg was awarded a grant to design pedestrian improvements and green stormwater infrastructure features for the Elm Street corridor. The Fitchburg Department of Public Works and DPW Commissioner Nicholas Erickson will sponsor the project, and Weston & Sampson will conduct a community outreach meeting at the Fitchburg Senior Center following the Council on Aging meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026.
Chair Todd Goodwin described the session as a preliminary meeting "providing the community with an opportunity to listen and learn about the Elm Street improvement plans." Board member Nancy Donohue said she was concerned about the possible loss of parking spaces as the design work proceeds. Koeck said she will post meeting notices in the February Senior Focus newsletter and on Facebook.
