Councilor Govan, SCANS members urge prompt move on ordinance after recent clear-cut

Councilor Govan told the subcommittee he appreciated the forestry division’s field work and called for timely progress on the ordinance after seeing recent clear-cutting in Ward 7. “I’m hoping, you know, that we can move this forward sometime, sooner rather than later,” he said, noting concern for future tree cover and residents’ access to shade and clean air.

SCANS members and other participants echoed his remarks, thanking Alex Sherman and city staff for the practical demonstration and urging the subcommittee to incorporate the technical recommendations into the law department draft. The committee concluded the discussion by requesting a draft and scheduling a follow-up meeting.
