County engineer to retire June 1; commission approves reorganization and pay-grade changes

The St. Clair County Commission approved a staffing plan tied to the upcoming retirement of county engineer Dan Dahlke, effective June 1.
Dahlke confirmed his retirement date. The commission approved moving Clay to pay grade 55 to become county engineer, promoting Blake Phillips to assistant engineer (pay grade 52), and designating Blake Galahar as primary project engineer (pay grade 38). Commissioners said the reorganization was expected to save approximately $77,000 compared with continuing the prior structure.
Chairman Beckman and other commissioners praised Dahlke’s long service and experience; Dahlke said he appreciated the position and his time at the county. The reorganization motion carried by voice vote.
