Garland council schedules hearings, unanimously approves hearing schedule for 67.99¢ tax rate

Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Ott moved, "I move that the proposed 2026 tax rate of 67.99¢ per $100 valuation be discussed at 3 public hearings," specifying the first public hearing on Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. at Garland City Hall (200 North 5th Street), a second hearing on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at Garland City Hall, and tax-rate adoption on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at Garland City Hall. The Mayor announced the motion had a second by Council Member Moore. The Mayor called for a vote and the motion passed unanimously; the Mayor instructed the secretary to prepare the vote record.
The motion set the public engagement schedule that staff had outlined earlier; the council took no further substantive action on rates at the special session and adjourned after the vote. The hearings will provide the formal opportunities for public testimony and any adjustments before final adoption on Aug. 17.
