Staff warns residents about fraudulent emails asking for wire payments for permit fees

Village staff alerted the public that fraudulent emails have been circulating that claim to be from the Plan Commission and request fee payments by wire transfer. Rob told the commission the village ‘‘would never require individuals or applicants at the plan commission to pay for fees or request any fees for anything related to any of the items via a wire.’’ Staff and the IT/communications teams are distributing notices to applicants and the wider community to guard against the scam.
The commission did not take formal action on the notice but directed staff to continue outreach. Rob said the village had a recent incident where an applicant attempted to wire funds in response to a fraudulent message and that staff are proactively reminding applicants of proper payment channels.
