Council highlights local meetings and a youth dog-poster contest

Council announced a Widowed Helping Widowed support meeting, a City Council community meeting hosted by Councilor Bernie Schultz on Jan. 12 featuring Senator John Cronin and new councilors, and opened the Dog License Poster Contest for grades 1–6 with a Feb. 13 deadline.
During the Jan. 6 meeting the Council relayed several community announcements. Staff announced the Widowed Helping Widowed Support Group will meet Thursday, Jan. 8 from 4:00–5:30 p.m. at Fitchburg State University Recreation Center; Kathy Boisvert and Councilor Bernie Schultz will co-facilitate.
Councilor Bernie Schultz also announced a City Council community meeting on Monday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Legislative Building; Massachusetts State Senator John Cronin and newly elected Councilors Joe Bowen and Kevin Starr were listed as presenters who will answer questions. The Clerk announced the annual Dog License Poster Contest for Fitchburg students in grades 1–6 with a submission deadline of Feb. 13, 2026 and specifications for original artwork.
