Council enacts Salem Street parking permit and CPI-based salary notice ordinance

The City Council approved Ordinance 214-25 on final reading to add a resident-permit parking designation on Salem Street (from the Heywood Street intersection northwest for 100 feet). The ordinance was sent to third and final reading and adopted by unanimous consent; the Mayor signed it on Jan. 15, 2026.
Separately, the Council adopted Ordinance 092-23 on final reading to amend Chapter 3, Article IV to require that any petition that proposes salary increases include a communication from the City Auditor calculating a "CPI Adjustment Factor" and that the auditor's communication be read or summarized when the Council debates such petitions. The measure sets the CPI Adjustment Factor as the lesser of 5% or the Boston-area CPI-U change, with a floor of 0%. The ordinance was adopted by unanimous consent and signed by the Mayor on Jan. 15, 2026.
Two other draft ordinances to enhance enforcement of junk-vehicle infractions were referred to the Legislative Affairs Committee for further review.
