Trustees opt not to raise Sheffield’s 1% telecommunications tax now

During the Nov. 12 meeting, President Sheila Yepsen opened discussion of the Village’s simplified telecommunications tax, noting it has been at 1% since 2003. Clerk Ries provided an IML model ordinance for trustees to review if they wished to consider changes. Trustees agreed not to pursue an increase at this time, citing concern for residents’ financial stability and the option to revisit the tax later.
Attorney Frost had identified the tax as one of several possible adjustments for the board to consider. The discussion did not produce a motion to alter the tax rate and no fiscal analysis or public hearing was scheduled during the meeting.
