Superintendent briefs board on ICE concerns, meeting streaming and staffing changes

Superintendent Ryan Pacatte told trustees there is regional concern about immigration enforcement activity near schools and that legal guidance from counsel Bond, Schoeneck & King would be followed: staff should contact the Superintendent's office, which will reach out for legal advice if a situation arises.
Pacatte also reported that the district plans to sign up for a Zoom account to begin streaming board meetings around mid-March and is evaluating "Board Docs" for board records management; he said more information on costs and options will be presented to the Board. He recommended converting a teacher-on-special-assignment LTS social studies position to a probationary hire and said the district will hire a full-time cleaner to address a facilities staffing shortfall. The Board agreed to bring those personnel items to the next meeting for formal approval.
Pacatte additionally reported his advocacy meetings in Washington, D.C., and planned Lobby Day in Albany to discuss Title I, Title II and IDEA funding and to raise concerns about the potential reorganization of the U.S. Department of Education.
