YMCA leaders gave the Village Board a progress update and a virtual tour of the new Village Shorewood YMCA on April 14, saying the facility is expected to open April 27 and that public programs will begin immediately.
"So far, we've got close to 5,000 people," Katie said, and confirmed that more than 2,500 individuals joined the facility since Feb. 28. YMCA staff said they have already hired about 178 people and reported 293 summer day-camp sign-ups with an anticipated average weekly attendance of 215 children. The presenters outlined sample programming (swim lessons, group fitness, youth sports) and highlighted an eight-lane indoor pool with seating for 198, opportunities to host swim meets, and planned community events including a ribbon cutting and community open house on May 2.
Board members praised the nonprofit's economic and community benefits and thanked staff and contractors who completed the project. The YMCA representatives encouraged residents to attend the State of the Village and the scheduled preview events.
