Supervisor Brenda Adams said the East Chatham Fire Company budget would include a 2% increase over the 2025 contract amount for each of the next three years and that the new tax‑raised amount would remain the same for that term.
Supervisor Adams said the Chatham Rescue Squad (CRS) contract for 2026 represents "approximately a 9% increase over last year’s contract to maintain current staffing and level of services," and that costs are apportioned among the five towns in the district by taxable values and parcel counts; "Canaan’s share is about $130,000," she said. Councilperson‑elect Frank Wood asked how many calls CRS responded to last year; Adams said she would supply call‑volume numbers later and reiterated that the contract cost is split by valuation and parcels rather than call count.
The hearing produced no public or board questions in the room or online about the East Chatham Fire Company budget. With no further comment, Councilperson David Patzwahl moved to close the hearing; the motion, seconded by Councilperson Ginny Nightingale, carried with five affirmative votes.
