IT staff explained the subscription adds active monitoring and recovery assistance beyond the village's existing endpoint protection. "While it's not currently a requirement of our cyber liability insurance, it's very likely to be a requirement soon. So we're trying to be proactive rather than reactive in this regard," the IT representative said. Staff compared competing quotes and explained the higher quotes included additional professional services and a rip-and-replace approach.
Trustees approved the purchase on a roll-call vote. Staff said the MDR is intended to detect active threats, work with IT on mitigation, and assist with recovery if an incident occurs.
