Board hears budget committee: transportation costs and state aid remain key pressures

At the Jan. 13 meeting, Mrs. Stone, reporting for the Budget Committee, said the panel met Jan. 8 to continue developing the 2026–27 budget and reviewed December notes; an estimated state aid update looked hopeful but final figures were pending.
Mrs. Stone told the board that transportation remains a significant budget item and that administration is considering financing some or all bus replacements in the 2026–27 budget. She said the administration continues to explore attrition, restructuring and further reductions and noted that a tax increase may be necessary if savings and aid do not cover projected costs. The Business Office also reported the annual financial risk assessment was completed and will be reviewed with the Internal Audit Committee within the next month.
