Trustees approve ordinance adding stop signs and temporary speed humps on Burton Boulevard

The Shorewood Village Board voted to adopt an ordinance authorizing all-way stop signs at selected intersections and six temporary speed humps along Burton Boulevard.

Public works staff presented the plan, saying locations were chosen after traffic engineering review and spaced to limit ADA impacts. "We are recommending the village board approve the ordinance authorizing the installation of an all way stop intersections and temporary speed humps along Burton," the public works representative said. Trustees agreed to redeploy a speed-monitoring trailer and evaluate speed and traffic counts about six months after installation to measure effect.

The ordinance was moved by Trustee Brockman and seconded by Trustee Babiak; roll-call votes recorded Brockman, Chapman, Selfridge, Amos and Babiak voting yes and the motion carried. Trustees discussed that prior mitigation efforts occurred about 12 years ago and thanked residents and the police department for raising and studying the issue. Staff said the speed-hump locations are approximately 400 feet apart through the corridor and that raised crosswalks near schools were deferred now for ADA reasons but may be considered if permanent measures follow.
