District will use 180.5 workdays going forward after TRS audit, plans retroactive reimbursements
Summary
A TRS audit found the district reported 180 days rather than 180.5 for teacher workdays; the district will use 180.5 to calculate per diem going forward and will retroactively reimburse teachers who had salary deductions this year.

Superintendent Margaret Clauson told the Board that an audit of TRS reporting revealed an inconsistency: when the district calendar moved from 180 to 180.5 contractual teacher workdays, reporting practices were not updated. The district had been reporting 180 workdays to TRS and using 180 days to determine per diem rates, affecting teachers with salary deductions and staff on extended calendars.
Clauson said the district will use 180.5 days to determine per diem rates beginning this school year and that teachers who had salary deductions this year will be retroactively reimbursed. The administration is working with the SEA (Skokie Education Association) to align salary calculations for future years; salaries for this year will remain unchanged for those on extended calendars while the district resolves the reporting practice.
